8.3 Management Review
Management involvement is important to the effectiveness of an energy management system in that it allows the top management to review the organizations processes, at regular intervals, to ensure continuing suitability, adequacy, effectiveness and alignment with its strategic direction.
In management review, the following are given consideration:
- The status of actions from previous management reviews;
- Changes in external and internal issues relevant to the energy management system;
- Information and trends in management performance including: nonconformities and corrective actions, monitoring and measurement results, audit results and results of the evaluation of the compliance with legal and other requirements
- Opportunities for continual improvement, including competence; and
- Energy policy.
8.3.1. Inputs
There are critical energy performance inputs the management need in order to conduct an effective review. These inputs include:
- Extent to which objectives and energy targets have been met;
- Energy performance and energy performance improvement based on monitoring and measurement results including the energy performance indicators; and
- Status of action plans.
8.3.2. Outputs
The outputs of the management review are decisions related to continual improvement opportunities and any need for changes to the energy management system including:
- Opportunities for improved energy performance;
- Energy policy;
- Energy performance indicators (EnPIs) and energy baselines (EnBs);
- Energy objectives, energy targets and action plans and actions to be taken, if not achieved;
- Opportunities to integrate with business processes;
- Allocation of resources; and
- Improvement of competence, awareness and communication.
