Roadworks Safety and Traffic Management
Duration: 4 Days (10 Hours per Day)
Total Training Hours: 40 Hours
Brief Description of the Course
Road construction and maintenance activities introduce significant safety risks to motorists, pedestrians, and construction workers. Proper roadworks safety engineering and traffic management planning are essential to reduce accidents, ensure safe work zones, and minimize disruption to traffic flow.
This 4-day intensive training program focuses on engineering and management of road safety in road construction projects, particularly the design and implementation of temporary traffic management systems, roadwork safety devices, and safety engineering measures.
Participants will learn how to:
- Design safe roadwork zones
- Apply DPWH roadworks safety standards
- Develop Traffic Management Plans for construction projects
- Estimate the cost of road safety measures and traffic control systems
- Conduct road safety inspections and audits
The training combines engineering lectures, practical workshops, and real project case studies, allowing participants to develop actual traffic management plans and cost estimates for roadworks safety systems.
This program supports engineers seeking technical competency and CCPE training requirements for DPWH accreditation.
Learning Objectives
At the end of the training, participants will be able to:
- Understand the principles of road safety engineering in road construction zones.
- Identify hazards and risks associated with roadworks and temporary traffic conditions.
- Apply DPWH roadwork safety standards and guidelines.
- Design safe roadwork layouts including advance warning, transition, work, and termination zones.
- Develop a Traffic Management Plan (TMP) for road construction projects.
- Estimate costs associated with safety devices, traffic control, and safety personnel.
- Identify and select appropriate road safety devices and temporary traffic control systems.
- Conduct road safety inspections and risk assessments for roadworks projects.
- Prepare road safety improvement plans for road infrastructure projects.
- Integrate road safety considerations into construction planning, scheduling, and budgeting.
